Panhandle Mental Health Foundation began in January 2001 to aid mental health and substance abuse treatment by promoting public service announcements targeting specific areas of treatment. The Foundation was established to provide financial support to mental health and substance abuse providers, not just Panhandle Mental Health Center by securing grants that target specific areas of needed services. These areas included start-up funding for services, emergency funds for purchasing prescriptions medications until another source of income could be obtained, emergency funds for housing for mental health and substance abuse consumers can be placed in appropriate programs.
The PMHC Foundation members work collaboratively to:
- Participate in Foundation quarterly meetings and ongoing standing committee meetings.
- Attend Foundation events and represent the Foundation at community stakeholder meetings.
- Define and recommend funding for new and existing behavioral health services using innovative approaches.
- Establish partnership and networking opportunities with other community resources and behavioral health programs.
